The chalk walk will be an event where K-12th grade students, artists, businesses and other community members will gather to draw with chalk on the sidewalks in downtown Redding starting at Whistlestop Park and Market. Each artist will be assigned to a square where they will complete a drawing. Artists of all ages will compete to win prizes.

Yes, traditional sidewalk chalk will be available for purchase.
Participants are welcome to bring their own chalk including artist quality chalk. Only washable chalk is permitted. No paints, permanent markers, oil pastels, spray chalk, or fixatives are allowed.

Beginning on Saturday morning, artists will begin drawing their designs. All designs will need to be completed by 5:00pm when judging takes place. An awards ceremony will begin at 6:00pm. There will be prizes awarded:

All artwork must be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
No offensive, political, or inappropriate images, language, or symbols
No Logos except sponsored businesses: designs may include business names or themes if part of a sponsored square, but should remain primarily artistic.

The squares are located on the sidewalk, starting at Whistlestop Park, Market Street, Butte and Yuba.

Check in and drawing start time: 9am
End Time: 5pm
Judging and awards: 6pm

Only washable chalk is permitted.

Participants can bring their own chalk. Regular sidewalk chalk will be available for purchase.
Chalk art is temporary and will naturally fade or be washed away—please do not attempt to seal or preserve artwork.

Each artist or group will be assigned a designated sidewalk square.
Please stay within your assigned space and respect neighboring artists.
Pop up tents are permitted as long as they do not impede on someone else's work space. Tents need to be weighted down if it is windy.

There are multiple sponsorship levels to fit businesses of all sizes:
Bronze – $100
Silver – $250
Gold – $500
Platinum – $1,000 (Title Sponsor)
Diamond – $2,000 ( Title Sponsor)
All sponsors receive a reserved sidewalk square at the event and recognition as a community partner supporting the arts. Sidewalk squares are 6x6 or 6x9 (whichever you choose) in size.
Platinum and Diamond sponsors receive elevated recognition as Title Sponsors, with prominent visibility throughout the event and in promotional materials.
Sponsors are encouraged to collaborate with an artist—or even a student—to create a custom chalk design that can reflect their business, brand, or message. This creates a fun, interactive, and highly visible way to engage with the community.
